What Is IPTV and How Does It Work?
IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. Instead of receiving channels through a rooftop aerial, a cable, or a satellite dish, IPTV streams the same content to your device over your regular internet connection — the way you already watch video online.
How it actually works
When you press play, your player app requests a stream from a server. That server sends the video to your device in small pieces, which your player buffers and plays back smoothly. Because it travels over the internet, the same line that loads a web page can deliver live TV in HD or 4K.
Live TV, VOD, and catch-up
- Live TV — channels broadcasting in real time, just like traditional television.
- Video on demand (VOD) — a library of movies and series you start whenever you like.
- Catch-up / replay — rewind the last few days of programming you missed.
What you need to get started
Three things: a stable internet connection, a compatible device (Smart TV, streaming stick, phone, or computer), and a player app you load your credentials into. Buy a subscription, receive your details by email, and you're ready — no installer vans, no hardware contracts.
Aim for around 25 Mbps for reliable 4K. A wired connection always beats Wi-Fi for stability during busy evenings.
